Meet Amy
Hi, I'm Amy Primmer. I'm an Accredited Practising Dietitian in Geelong, Australia.
I'm a Non-Diet Dietitian which means that not only do I know that diets don't work, I also don't promote weight loss as a goal. Instead I help people to reconnect with their body's signals so they can feel confident to know when, what and how much they would like to eat - without the guilt, stress or worry about calorie counting, food rules or portion sizes! I practise with a weight-neutral approach, meaning we can focus on other important areas that more strongly influence our health such as dietary choices, body image and relationship with food. I use Health at Every Size® and Intuitive Eating principles to work together with clients to help re-discover the joy of eating and be able to trust their body. |
My Story
I wanted to become a Dietitian as I have always found it relatively easy to make healthy food choices growing up, as I do enjoy nutritious foods and my mum always provided us with a variety of foods at home. We didn't have certain foods restricted from us or demonised - so I was able to listen to my body's hunger and fullness signals and have a good relationship with food.
Throughout my dietetics degree, at different stages of learning the ins and outs of food science and nutrition I would be horrified at certain foods and how they could react in our body. It made me scared of different foods or how eating them 'too often' could possibly harm my health.
I'd come home with stories about how we shouldn't cook using x method or y ingredient. But as I learnt more and finished my Masters of Dietetics I was able to see it all in perspective and realise it wasn't so doom and gloom after all!
Now I love working with clients to help them move from that same place of fear and confusion around eating to be more confident, relaxed and happy with their food choices.
